Annual Report for 2011

After the loss of a loved one a member of Glory to God asked for help in finding new homes for medical supplies including but not limited to 2 wheelchairs, a walker, a bathroom chair and in home medical equipment. The medical equipment was given to Hearts in Motion for their work in South America; I have worked with the director and am confident that it will be put to good use. One of the wheelchairs was lent to a family in Hammond who will benefit by the mobility it provides (it was motorized) they replaced the batteries and have committed to returning the chair after there is no longer a need. The second wheelchair was put back into use in Highland. It is felt that this was in agreement with the request in that the items are back in use with no cost (other than consumables / batteries) to the recipient.

The members of Glory to God in their generosity with the Angel tree gifts, mittens socks and underwear provided enough items for gifts to about 20 children through the Munster Salvation Army. The Salvation Army post commander noted that the undergarments and socks are a large unfilled need and was grateful for these items.

We are maintaining a small food pantry that provides for local needs to people who arrive asking for help. A full vanload of extra food (nonperishable) was taken to the food bank in Gary and will be distributed to local pantries based on need.

We are also providing the Saint Joseph Soup Kitchen with hot meals in July and December using volunteers and donations from within our congregation.

Service Committee Chairman,
Michael Minogue
